Murdered teenage mum’s partner in appeal

Michael Murphy, who has been left to look after the couple’s young daughter following Lynette McKeown’s death, wants to find the person who killed her.

Detectives investigating the circumstances surrounding her death say it could be days before the results of toxicology tests on the body are known.

At this stage, the investigation team believes she met someone early on the Saturday morning of her disappearance, probably in the north inner city.

Investigators are speaking with friends and associates of the 19-year-old mother of one. It is understood she had a drug habit but had been attempting to kick it in recent months.

One theory is that Lynette met up with someone on Friday night or Saturday morning, scored drugs and then took an overdose.

The person than panicked and dumped the body but was moved to phone gardaí after the dead woman’s mother, Carol, made a public appeal.

Mr Murphy, her partner of four years and father of two-year-old Kelly, said: “I just hope the person rings in again. If he has a heart he’ll ring in again. We want to catch the person that killed her.”

Following her disappearance - she left the couple’s home around 9.30pm on Friday, August 13 - the family knew that something terrible had happened after she failed to make contact.

“I knew she wouldn’t leave. It’s just horrible,” he said, adding his priority was to look after baby Kelly.

The caller phoned gardaí on the Thursday following Lynette’s disappearance.

He said a body was dumped between Naas and Blessington.

While local gardaí searched the area, it was a farmer who discovered the body, in a deserted outhouse at Eadestown.

It took some time to positively identify the body as it was there for between five and seven days.
