Gardaí rule out foul play after two bodies discovered
A woman’s body was washed up on the beach in Tramore yesterday while a neighbour discovered the body of a 51-year-old man in Ballinlough, Co Roscommon.
The male deceased was named locally as Damien Delaney, a native of Dublin, who had been living in the west of Ireland for several years.
Gardaí dismissed local rumours that the retired bus driver, whose body was found in his remote cottage, had been dead for several days.
A garda spokesman said a post-mortem was expected to show the man died of natural causes.
A neighbour calling to the man’s house at lunchtime on Thursday made the discovery.
The body was removed to University College Hospital in Galway where a post-mortem was completed yesterday.
The torso found by a passer-by on the beach, meanwhile, was believed to be a woman in her 40s.
Local reports suggested the woman was from the Dungarvan area but gardaí are awaiting post-mortem findings to assist with a positive identity.
Preliminary findings indicate the body was not in the water for a long time.
Car keys were also found on the woman’s person.
Meanwhile, gardaí said the post-mortem results on the skeletal remains of 70-year-old Mayo woman Agnes Lyons were expected early next week.
She was believed to have been dead for several months before a local GP made the discovery at Carrownedan, Aughamore near Ballyhaunis on Monday last.
Her badly decomposed body was found at the family home she shared with an elderly brother and sister.
Dr Margaret Bolster conducted a post mortem on Wednesday last to establish the cause and time of death. Although gardaí believe she died from natural causes, the time of death remains a mystery.
