Bosnians’ car death ruled accidental

BOSNIAN farm worker Sabit Abrahimi met his death on the fourth anniversary of his arrival in this country.

Bosnians’ car death ruled accidental

He and three fellow Balkan natives died in a crash between his car and a truck on a narrow north Co Dublin country road. Mr Abrahimi, 59, and his colleagues were on their way to pick potatoes in the fields nearby on the morning of September 18 last.

The other victims were: Zihad Kobastic, 47, Mrs Fata Hota, 54, and Mrs Dika Dizdarevic, 42.

“It was the worst crash scene I have ever been to in my career,” Garda Stephen Keane told Dublin City Coroner Dr Brian Farrell and a jury yesterday. Gda Keane investigated the head-on smash at Balcunnin, Skerries between the Bosnians’ Ford Fiesta and a truck driven by local man Brian McGloughlin.

Mr McGloughlin told the inquest: “I am not in any way responsible for the accident as the other driver was travelling at high speed in the middle of the road.”

After members of the victims’ families put questions to the court, Mr McGloughlin declared: “Under oath, I can swear there was no alcohol in my blood. I also offered the guards that I would give a specimen.”

The jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
