STORMY weather at sea for the past month has caused the deaths of hundreds of fish which are being washed up on some beaches in the South-West.

Described yesterday by Department of Marine official Kevin Flannery as a most unusual phenomenon, the fish are believed to have been choked by sediment churned up from the seabed.

Conger eel, some of which can weigh up to 80lb, wrasse and ling are among the species that have been found between the Maharees and Brandon Head in the Dingle Peninsula.
