The 16-year-old was stabbed in the thigh with a kitchen knife by his younger brother, aged 12, during an apparent domestic row on Tuesday night.

Their mother was in the house in Finglas, north Dublin, and phoned for an ambulance.

The injured party was taken to the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown. His injuries were not believed to be serious. Detectives recovered a knife and held it for forensic analysis.

Gardaí interviewed the boys and their parents yesterday to determine whether charges should be brought.

Also in Dublin, three foreign nationals were taken to hospital following a street melee involving knives.

A gang of three men attacked a fourth individual outside a shop on Lower Kilmacud Road, in Stillorgan, south Dublin around 11.15pm on Tuesday night.

Three men, one seriously injured, were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital with stab wounds. Gardaí arrested a man in his late 20s as a result. In another incident, early yesterday morning, gardaí in west Dublin arrested a man following a seizure of guns and ammunition.

When gardaí approached the man who was cycling about 1.45am on Shancastle Crescent in Ronanstown, Clondalkin, he threw away a bag found to contain a pistol, shotgun and cartridge ammunition, and fled. He was pursued and arrested.

Meanwhile, gardaí arrested two people in Ballyfermot, west Dublin, late Tuesday night after nearly half a kilo of heroin with an estimated street value of up to €100,000 was found during a raid. The local Garda Drugs Unit searched a house on Landen Road, which they believed was being used as a drug distribution centre.
