Harney’s 100 days under fire

TÁNAISTE Mary Harney’s 100th day as Health Minister saw a near-record 234 patients awaiting treatment on trolleys in hospital, Fine Gael revealed yesterday.

This is the second-highest number of patients on trollies since Ms Harney took over the Health portfolio and the highest it has been in the past month, Fine Gael's Health spokesman Dr Liam Twomey said.

"In the last few days we have heard hospitals as far apart as Donegal and Wexford canceling elective surgery due to overcrowding," Mr Twomey said.
