THE Environmental Protection Agency has granted a licence for the country's first toxic waste incinerator, despite vehement opposition from environmental groups.

The EPA yesterday granted Indaver a licence to process 100,000 tonnes of toxic and industrial waste a year at Ringaskiddy, Co Cork.

It also granted the company permission to run another incinerator at Duleek, Co Meath, which will process a similar tonnage of non-hazardous waste.
