Health files not in National Archives

THE Department of Health is failing to transfer many of its old files to the National Archives despite having a legal obligation to do so.

Under the 1986 Archives Act all Government departments have an obligation to transfer all files over 30 years old so they can be made available for public viewing.

However, by its own admission, the Department of Health has not filed much of its file holdings because of numerous problems.
