POLITICIANS spent three hours in Kerry’s remote Black Valley yesterday to check out first hand the difficulties with the phone system there.

Among them was Tourism Minister John O’Donoghue, who urged a change in the Kerry County Development Plan to allow a cellular phone service in the valley, between Killarney and Kenmare.

The development plan bans the erection of telecommunications masts within a kilometre of residential buildings.
