Gardaí confirmed yesterday that the chief justice had travelled to Ireland with some of his family members to make arrangements for the funeral of his daughter, Paiche Onyemaechi, aged 25, now the subject of a murder investigation.

The chief justice also arranged to meet Gardaí who are investigating her murder.

The woman, known to her friends as Gina, lived at St Herblain Park, Waterford, with her Nigerian husband and two sons, aged one-and-a-half and three-and-a-half.

It is understood that the dead woman worked in lap dancing clubs in Dublin and Limerick and also worked as a prostitute for a time.

She is believed to have gone missing on a number of occasions.

Her husband Chika had reported her missing earlier this month. The couple were married in the city’s registry office three years ago.

It is understood that Mr Onyemaechi had been brought in for questioning by Gardaí but was later released.

The young woman’s dismembered and decomposed body, which had been wrapped in a bin liner and propped against a tree by a stream, was identified on Monday evening from fingerprint records.

A post mortem is expected to be followed by further tests.
