AN archaeological find on the site of a €372 million motorway in Limerick could herald massive delays or force the redesign of the route if further ancient treasures are discovered.

Limerick County Council last night insisted the discovery of an Iron Age broach is not of sufficient significance to warrant a redesign of the roadway, adding there was no fear of another Carrickmines situation developing.

But sources said further finds could change the situation and more extensive digs are proceeding where the broach was found.
