Bertie Bowl is history, says Ahern

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern yesterday confirmed that the so-called Bertie Bowl national stadium at Abbotstown will never be brought back onto the Government’s agenda.

Mr Ahern dismissed opposition claims that he was attempting to undermine the Lansdowne Road stadium project to revive the abandoned plan for a 80,000-seat national stadium on the outskirts of Dublin.

Facing a flurry of opposition criticism over his weekend comments that the redevelopment at Lansdowne Road would be subject to inordinate delays, Mr Ahern yesterday denied he was trying to scupper the project.
