Personal advocacy system will help people with disabilities access social services

THE State is to invest €5 million a year in providing a new personal advocacy service to help people with disabilities to access social services, Social and Family Affairs Minister Mary Coughlan confirmed yesterday.

The service will provide 324,000 people with some form of disability with a personal assistant to help them access social services.

“I believe the position of people with disabilities will be improved significantly through the introduction of the new personal advocacy service,” said Minister Coughlan.
