Rising heroes - silence marks day of national reflection on sacrifices

MORE THAN 100,000 people stood in silent tribute to the dead of the 1916 Easter uprising yesterday as the GPO building was transformed into a national shrine to their sacrifice.

The minute’s silence was the emotional focal point of a ceremony which saw the first military parade down O’Connell Street since the onset of the Troubles.
