Tenants owe council €1m in arrears

COUNCIL tenants in arrears owe nearly €1 million in loans to Cork County Council - the highest amount of cash outstanding for a number of years.

A local authority report shows that by the end of last October, 325 people were in arrears to the tune of €866,000. Another 141 people are in arrears for between two and four months and owe €74,000.

Officials said they are “dealing with a number of loans with significant arrears” and that it was necessary to repossess one house during 2003.
