Detectives yesterday said they had not yet received a huge response from the public in connection with the fatal shooting of Vincent O’Brien in Bray, Co Wicklow.

Mr O’Brien, 53, was shot several times in the head and chest at his home on Kilbride Grove shortly before 10.30pm on Wednesday.

“We’re appealing to anyone who was in that area driving cars or taxis and who may have seen a car, a high powered type car, to come forward,” said a garda spokesperson.

“We’re hoping people might come back with a more definite description. We don’t know the significance of the car. We don’t know if it’s connected.”

The spokesperson said they had little information on the possible motive behind the attack.

Local sources suggested the killing could be linked to the murder of a suspected heroin dealer in nearby Greystones in 1999.

“There’s nothing to link to that. It’s in the pot, but there’s nothing definite,” said a garda source.

Gardaí said the attacker is described as 5ft 8in in height, wearing a dark hoodie and peaked cap.

Anyone with information can contact Bray Garda Station on 01-6665300.
