CONTRACT cleaners were back at work at one of the country’s busiest hospitals yesterday after nine days off the payroll in a row that saw 140 staff lose their jobs.

After six hours of negotiations, a deal was brokered that saw the €7-an-hour staff back at work yesterday.

But cleaning firm Noonan Services Ltd has confirmed that it will be withdrawing from the contract at Waterford Regional Hospital from September, leaving the staff in limbo within weeks.
