Second date for Flatley’s sellout show
Tickets went on sale yesterday, with another sellout crowd on the cards, for his planned midsummer Dublin spectacular.
Before Christmas, it took eight minutes to sell all 10,000 tickets for his new Celtic Tiger show, staged on April 20 at the Point Theatre. That was 20 tickets sold every second.
Flatley’s fleet feet remain unrivalled in the world of dance. The maestro struck 35 taps a second in 1998 to set a new entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
Now he is back on an Irish stage due to unprecedented demand, according to Aiken Promotions. The second Dublin show takes place at the RDS Arena on June 3.
“I am delighted to be playing at the RDS,” said Flatley.
“Dublin is my home from home and it is always a big thrill to be playing in front of a home crowd. We are going to light up that place.”
Celtic Tiger is described as “a highly charged and innovative show with breathtaking special effects making it not quite a stage show and not quite a feature film but uniquely somewhere in between.”
Images of Irish history fill the first half of the show which ends with the portrayal of the birth of modern Ireland as a nation state and a people constantly emerging from the jaws of defeat. The second half builds on images of modern Ireland and celebrates new life in America and across the globe. The invincible spirit of the Celtic Tiger is the thread that draws the images together.
Flatley will be performing weeks before his 49th birthday. Some years ago, he had signalled his intention to retire from public performances. Instead, he has delighted his legion of fans by bouncing back.
He describes the current 90-minute show he created and stars in as “powerful and hard-hitting.”
