AT least three people committed suicide over the weekend and nearly 100 were admitted to hospital after deliberately harming themselves.

Since a national suicide task force reported in 1998, nearly 3,000 people have killed themselves and approximately 60,000, the majority of them women, are known to have attempted to do so.

Around 150,000 people were prescribed anti-depressants and sedatives in the last month.
