Gardaí may quiz Miami Vice star over €2m theft
Detectives from the national fraud office are involved in an international investigation into the transfer of money from a St Stephen’s Green bank to a US account.
Mr Johnson, who is reported to be in financial trouble, had access to the US account.
The Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation’s case began after money went missing from an investment account held at the Dublin branch of the Bank National de Paris Paribas.
Detectives followed a paper trail to accounts in Spain, Eastern Europe, north Africa and finally to the US. The money is reported to have been returned to the bank.
Garda sources yesterday confirmed the investigation included checking links between the theft and the 54-year-old actor.
Mr Johnson, who last week was ordered by a judge in his home town of Aspen, Colorado, to pay an unpaid €5,000 grocery bill, is expected to be asked by the FBI why his name was on the receiving account.
It is understood the money was transferred illegally after hackers obtained the account’s access codes.
The actor was one of the best paid performers on US TV during his time as Sonny Crockett in Miami Vice.
