Heroin ‘destined for Limerick market’
Officers arrested a man, aged 28, with a Limerick address, after he was caught with a half of kilogramme of heroin, with a street value of around €110,000.
Gardaí said the haul was substantial in Limerick terms and raised concerns that the heroin market in the city was big enough for such a supply.
Detectives were yesterday trying to establish which gang in Limerick the man was working for.
He was arrested following a planned operation by the Sundrive Roads Drugs Unit in Crumlin, in south west Dublin.
Officers from the unit stopped and searched the man on Crumlin Road and found him in possession of the drugs.
He was taken to Sundrive Road Garda Station where he was detained under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
He is expected to be charged this morning.
Gardaí said the man was supplied with the heroin by a local Crumlin gang.
Nobody from the Crumlin gang was arrested.
The arrest follows a number of drug operations and arrests in the area in recent months.
On December 21, a man was charged in connection with the seizure of 45,000 ecstasy tablets.
On December 15, a local gang boss was hit when 50kg of cocaine was seized.
A man was charged in relation to the seizure.
In another case last October, the Crumlin Unit seized 3kg of heroin, with an estimated worth of €600,000. A man was subsequently charged.
