Now grown-ups can book for the Readathon

ADULTS are joining with children in the fun of reading for a good cause. But can they top the half million books read by 30,000 children who raised €1m for last year’s MS Readathon?

Now grown-ups can book for the Readathon

Over the next month everybody can get the chance to read and raise money for sufferers of multiple sclerosis. It's child's play: just register at your local library or book shop, collect or donate a sponsorship contribution from family or friends and read lots and lots of books.

At yesterday's fundraiser launch, RTÉ presenter Ryan Tubridy swapped tales of good reads with author Cecilia Ahern, our youngest writing sensation and daughter of Taoiseach Bertie.

"When I was younger I was a very fast reader I'd read a book in two hours," said Cecilia. "Like kids watch a movie, I'd sit down and read a book. I do like reading and it's never stopped."

Others lending their support include rugby player Denis Hickie, singer Mickey Harte, DJ Tom Dunne, Dublin GAA star Jason Sherlock and TV presenters Geri Maye and Laura Woods.

Everybody who takes part will be entered in a draw for all sorts of prizes from a computer to a journey by hot air balloon.

The Readathon supports the MS Society, which works to help the 6,000 people in this country with MS the most common neurological disabling disease affecting young adults.
