Mystery of man and woman found dead in Lee
Gardaí said they had checked the missing persons directory and found no matches for either of the two, and unusually nobody had come forward with any information about them.
“It is very unusual that nobody has come forward to identify either the man, or the woman,” a garda spokeswoman said.
The first body, that of a man, was discovered in the River Lee at The Marina in Cork City shortly after midnight on October 10.
The man is described as of heavy build, and around 5ft 9ins tall. “He was going bald and his hair was tightly shaven. His face was clean shaven, and he was wearing denim jeans, a cheque shirt, brown jacket, and brown boating shoes,” the spokeswoman said.
She added that a navy-coloured baseball cap, with the Canadian national emblem, was found in the man’s jacket pocket. He was also wearing a watch on his left hand, which had a black leather strap. He’s described as being anywhere between 30 and 40 years old.
The body of the woman, believed to be in her late 40s, was recovered from the river near Patrick’s Bridge shortly after 8am the same day.
“She was of light build and around 5ft 6ins tall. She had short black hair, which was going grey. The woman wore black trousers and Dubarry shoes. She also had a red-hooded jacket which had a pouch at the front of it,” the spokeswoman said.
She was wearing a gold ring with three red stones, and a wrist band with the name ‘Mary’ inscribed on it that may help identify her.
