GARDAÍ yesterday confirmed they were investigating allegations that an officer accepted a bribe from immigrants in return for extending their visas.

It is claimed that a number of foreign nationals, here on student visas, were asked to pay €5,000 each to have the visa extensions stamped by an officer.

At least one of the immigrants claims he was asked for the money by an “intermediary” who said he could get their papers cleared by a garda.
