James Taylor joins the Rats among the Cats
Bob Geldof's Boomtown Rats will play as a support act to the legendary James Taylor, who headlines the fourth annual Smithwick's Source festival in Kilkenny on Sunday, July 18, at Nowlan Park.
Aiken Promotions said Taylor, who has sold 100 million records throughout his career, filled the Point Depot twice last year, along with the Odyssey, and will be a huge attraction.
The Smithwick's Source has previously featured music legends Paul Simon and Bob Dylan and Shania Twain.
Tickets for the gig go on sale from noon today.
The event is expected to attract over 20,000 visitors and feature live music sessions at venues around the city on the Smithwick's Pub Trail, coupled with the main open-air event at Nowlan Park.
"We are really looking forward to going back to Kilkenny. Bob Dylan was great, the Paul Simon concert was also a huge success, as was Shania Twain last year," said promoter Peter Aiken.
"We've had great co-operation from the GAA, the locals and the gardaí.
"Kilkenny is well established on the international circuit. When we asked James Taylor about Kilkenny, there was no hesitation. He said that was great. We are really looking forward to another great gig,"
James Taylor is one of the most renowned live acts in music. His repertoire of classics include You've Got a Friend, Fire and Rain, Sweet Baby James and Carolina in my Mind.
Smithwick's brand manager Nicola Trainor said: "Smithwick's is delighted to be back in Kilkenny this year for the fourth Smithwick's Source festival.
"As a festival weekend, Smithwick's Source is truly unique with the fun and relaxed atmosphere around the city and performances from world-class musicians. We have no doubt that this year can deliver the same success as previous years and are delighted to be presenting James Taylor a true legend of music."
