Man arrested in murder investigation released without charge

DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a father of four shot dead in the bedroom of his west Dublin home yesterday arrested a 20-year-old man who was later released without charge.

The man, who was held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, is suspected of withholding information about the murder of 36-year-old Anthony Creed.

Mr Creed was gunned down at his home in Clondalkin at the end of May by a gunman who fled the scene on a bicycle.

The murdered man’s nine-year-old daughter opened the door to the killer, who then pushed past, went up the stairs and fired two rounds from a shotgun, one through the door and the second after stepping in to the bedroom.

Gardaí in Clondalkin yesterday interviewed a number of people in their ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, two men were being treated in hospital last night following two separate incidents in south Dublin. One is critical following a stabbing, the other serious after being shot in the street.

A 24-year-old man suffered injuries to his back and upper legs after being shot on the street in Crumlin. He is in a serious condition in St James’ Hospital.

A sawn-off shotgun was recovered from the near the scene.

Two males were arrested following the stabbing yesterday morning of a 19-year-old man near Shankill Dart Station in south Dublin.

The young man was last night fighting for his life.

One of those arrested, aged 22, will be charged with weapons offences. A second man, aged 23, was released without charge.
