Man dies after attack in Derry
Five people were arrested for questioning about the killing at a house in the Waterside area of the city.
The murder probe was launched after the victim, in his early 40s, died in hospital a few hours after being assaulted at a house in Clooney Terrace.
A police spokesman said three men and two women were being questioned about the death. A motive for the murder has not yet been established.
Police appealed for anyone in the area between 5pm and 6.30pm on Saturday who saw anything suspicious to contact them.
Meanwhile, people were injured in Co Down when a gang stormed a house and attacked revellers at a party.
Around 16 people were in the house at Reilly Street in Banbridge when it was attacked shortly before 4am, said police.
Eight men armed with clubs burst into the house through both the front and back doors and set upon the occupants.
Ten of the occupants were injured and taken to hospital.
One of the injured suffered serious head and back injuries, another serious facial injuries and three serious head injuries.
The injured were being treated in Daisy Hill Hospital, Newry and Craigavon Hospital.
Five children - aged between four and 16 - who were in the house escaped injury.
A Police Service spokesman said the attack on the house was believed to be connected with an altercation at Scarva Street in Banbridge some hours before.
