U-turn for bus firm in ageist case

BUS EIREANN has been ordered to accept a job application from one of its retired drivers after the Equality Tribunal found its policy of not re-employing staff was ageist.

U-turn for bus firm in ageist case

Brian O’Loughlin was awarded 3,000 by the Tribunal after successfully arguing that the bus company’s employment policies discriminated against older personnel.

Mr O’Loughlin, who took voluntary redundancy from Bus Eireann after 23 years service, complained to the tribunal when the company subsequently refused to consider him for the position of school bus driver or seasonal bus driver.
