Price of new house rises by 10.6%

THE price of new houses rose by 10.6% nationally in the last quarter of 2004, according to the latest Government survey published yesterday.

The rise in Dublin was slightly lower at 9.9%, the Housing Statistics Bulletin revealed. The price of second-hand houses nationally rose by 10% and by 9.1% in Dublin.

The Department of the Environment report also showed there is enough zoned, serviced land to provide 366,000 houses over the next five years. Housing Minister Noel Ahern said the amount of serviced, zoned land could house about one million people.
