Dog day afternoon as Limerick fight on

HALF the game had slipped away before firm favourites Kerry made any impression against a resourceful Limerick, who were devastated yesterday when their first provincial SFC title since 1896 remained tantalisingly just beyond reach.

The teams finished level 1-10 to 1-10 at the Gaelic Grounds, a score which produced one unexpected result, a replay.

Limerick started strongly, despite allowing Mike Frank Russell to find a net which had fewer holes in it than the Kerry defence after 10 minutes.
