Dead woman still not named

GARDAÍ were last night no closer to identifying a woman whose dead body was dumped in a Dublin city centre street.

The naked body of the middle-aged woman was wrapped in a duvet and left in a street behind St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre early on Tuesday morning.

A post mortem examination revealed she died from severe head injuries but that her throat had not been cut, as earlier reports claimed.

Detective Superintendent PJ Browne, who is heading the investigation, has appealed to people to check whether a neighbour fitting the description of the woman is missing.

The woman, aged approximately 50, had long dark greying hair, is 5’7 in height and of heavy build.

Missing person’s lists are being checked. It is understood her fingerprints are not on record.

Detectives do not believe she was killed where the body was found, at Mercer Street close to the top of Aungier Street in the south of the city. They have still not established where she was murdered.

It is believed the woman was not sexually assaulted.

A large number of people have contacted the incident room at Harcourt Square with information.
