Man found dead in home

GARDAÍ were last night trying to establish the final movements of a Tipperary man who was found dead in his home by a relative late on Wednesday night.

Man found dead in home

Former CIE worker Gus Moore suffered a head injury which is consistent with a fall, a post mortem on his remains last night revealed. But the examination by assistant State pathologist Marie Cassidy did not determine conclusively how the man died.

Gardaí in Clonmel were last night continuing to investigate whether anyone may have been in the man’s home around the time of his death. Local superintendent Dick Burke said the dead man suffered a single head wound.

Mr Moore, 49, from 101 Cherrymount, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, was discovered by his sister and brother in an upstairs bedroom after 7pm on Wednesday.

Supt Burke said his team is now trying to establish if anyone may have been in the house at the time of the incident.

Emergency services and gardaí were immediately notified by the dead man’s siblings. Mr Moore lived alone at the semi-detached home in the housing estate on the Cahir road.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, gardaí in Kilkenny investigating the murder of mother-of-two Christine Quinn are awaiting the results of detailed forensic tests from England. They hope the tests will help them in their arrest of the prime suspect in the murder. The 36-year-old mother of two teenage sons old suffered multiple stab wounds to her head and torso on December 4 at her home on the Greenfields Road, Freshford Road, Kilkenny.

Gardaí are preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and expect to make an arrest once they receive the forensic results within the next week.
