PROBLEMS with Government IT projects could have been identified 18 months ago, saving millions of euro, if an investigation demanded by the Dáil Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had been carried out.

But the Comptroller and Auditor General’s office failed to undertake the study because it had too much work to do in other areas.

In March last year, Fianna Fáil TD Batt O’Keeffe, then sitting on the PAC, announced he had secured the agreement of committee members to have the Comptroller carry out an investigation.
