Land needed to house emigrants

A SCARCITY of building land in Kerry towns is hampering plans to provide more houses for returning emigrants.

The Kerry Emigrant Support Housing Association has recently provided five apartments at Tansley Court, Caherina, Tralee, but has demand for many more.

Many of the people in need of housing are elderly and living in poor condition in British cities. Some may have left Kerry 40 to 50 years ago.

There are plans for an apartments scheme in Caherciveen.

Meanwhile, Kerry County Council has reported significant demand for affordable housing and low cost sites, especially in the Kenmare area.
