Arrest over baby’s death
The man was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and was interviewed by gardaí for 12 hours on Wednesday. The individual has since been released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
Gardaí launched a criminal investigation earlier this month after little Ross Murphy from Gorey, Co Wexford, died of unexplained internal injuries.
The tot, who was born in early December, was admitted to Wexford General Hospital on March 31 when his mother became worried about his health. Her only child was vomiting and had been crying a lot.
The baby was examined and was kept under close observation at Wexford General Hospital and was released three days later, on Sunday, April 3. But he was re-admitted hours later when his condition deteriorated.
The baby boy was transferred the next day to Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin but died within 24 hours. Details of the baby boy’s death only came to light when gardaí in Gorey were informed of the unexplained circumstances of his death by the Dublin coroner. It is believed Ross Murphy had little visible bruising to his body. But he had suffered serious and unexplained internal injuries.
