Family confirms request for independent post mortem

THE family of Dwayne Foster have said an independent post-mortem examination into his death will be carried out within the next few days.

Family confirms request for independent post mortem

The family’s solicitor John Feaheny said the family would “consider its options” once it had received the independent report.

Mr Feaheny said the post mortem was likely to happen very soon.

“The position is the family have instructed this office to arrange an independent examination by a pathologist, and that is under way,” he said.

Mr Feaheny declined to be drawn on what issues the family had with the official post mortem completed on Tuesday. He said that under the law the family was entitled to seek the independent examination.

The official post mortem, by assistant state pathologist, Dr Michael Curtis, concluded that Mr Foster died from natural causes.

Blood and urine samples from Mr Foster have been sent to the state laboratory to test for the presence of illegal drugs and substitute drugs such as methadone.

Mr Feaheny said his office was contacting pathologists in Britain to carry out the examination.

He said the report would be made available to the inquest if it clarified the issues surrounding the death of Mr Foster.

Mr Foster, 24, from Finglas, north Dublin, died early on Tuesday morning after he developed health problems while in Coolock garda station.

An internal garda fact-finding inquiry is under way to determine the circumstances surrounding Mr Foster’s death.

Gardaí were confident of charging Mr Foster with the murder of mother Donna Cleary, who died when shots were fired into a house in Coolock early last Sunday.

Her family have said that justice must be done for her death.

“All we want is justice to be done for the tragic death of our daughter Donna. We do not feel she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Every young person should be able to go out and enjoy themselves without fear of losing limb or life.”

The family thanked people for offering their support and apologised for not yet knowing the funeral arrangements.
