Long before the Viagra breakthrough, the people of Clarenbridge were convinced the oyster had more to offer than an exotic taste. So they came together and designated a weekend where they would consume thousands of the sweet-tasting creatures, and drink a few pints to wash them down.

There may be more stimulants on the market these days but the crowds still travel to sample Galway Bay’s finest at the famous oyster festival.
