Bill for record book signing
On Saturday in Eason’s, Bill plans to pen his name to 2,005 copies of his latest work, Golden Apples - Six Simple Steps to Success.
If his right hand stands up to it, he will have broken the Guinness Book of Records for the largest ever book signing by an author in one sitting.
“We’d love everyone to come along to cheer on and support this world record attempt for charity,” the Renault Ireland chairman said yesterday.
Eason’s will donate proceeds from the book sales on the day to the Irish Youth Foundation. Bill - who is president of the youth foundation - pledges to match the amount raised so the charity gets €10,000.
For a man who typically leaves his bed before 5am - while on his writing holidays - Saturday’s 8 o’clock start in Dublin’s O’Connell Street bookshop is no hardship.
Guinness World Records personnel will monitor the event, which will continue until 7pm. Californian Dave Wolverton, who signed 1,817 copies of his novel in July 1999, holds the world record.
A runaway success with his rags-to-riches memoir, It’s a Long Way from Penny Apples, Bill has a book-a-year deal with publisher Hodder & Stoughton.
Golden Apples explains the way to make your dreams come true in your career or personal life. His book tells how the 64-year-old informed his insurance man he will retire in 2050.
