Three killed in holiday weekend road accidents
All three people died in Munster.
Their deaths mean that 57 people have been killed on Irish roads so far this year.
Gardaí last night named the 91-year-old woman as Margaret O’Donoghue from Shannee, Killavullen, Co Cork.
She was a front seat passenger in a car which was involved in a collision with another vehicle at 11.30pm on Saturday.
The accident happened at Kilcanway, five miles east of Mallow on the main Fermoy road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle, a man in his early 20s, was taken to Mallow General Hospital with serious injuries.
The 18-year-old man who died when his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a car was named by gardaí as Michael Mackey from Grenagh, Co Cork.
He died in hospital after the accident, which happened at on the Tower-Vickerstown road at 11am on Saturday. Gardaí in Blarney are appealing for witnesses to the accident to contact them.
Local curate Fr Aidan Crowley said Michael was working as an apprentice with his father Garry, who is in the construction trade.
Michael’s removal is at 7.30pm tonight from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, North Gate Bride to the Church of the Most Precious Blood, Clogheen.
He will be buried following requiem mass at noon tomorrow at All Saints Cemetery, Garrycloyne.
He is survived by his parents, Garry and Teresa, brother, Gavin and sister Lydia.
A 64-year-old Co Tipperary man also lost his life after he was struck by a car near his home.
Timothy O’Donnell, from Haywood Close, Clonmel, was walking home at 2am last Friday when the accident happened.
