DETAILS of an action plan to tackle educational disadvantage in schools in the country’s poorest areas are expected to be announced by Education Minister Mary Hanafin today.

It is believed the plan will provide extra resources to schools in disadvantaged areas, aimed at reducing numbers of early school leavers and improving literacy levels among pupils.

The long-awaited strategy will finalise a consultation process which began with the formation of a statutory educational disadvantage committee four years ago.
