Department silent over stallion tax criticism

In a short statement, a spokesperson said that it was not the policy of the Department to comment in respect of ongoing discussions with the European Commission in relation to such issues.

In a preliminary decision last year, the commission found that the tax exemption, introduced by Charles Haughey in 1969, was a “state aid” and should therefore have been notified formally to the EU.
