Six Celtic soccer fans arrested after an alleged “riot” on a passenger jet were travelling back to Glasgow tonight as police and the airline denied claims that they had over-reacted.

A passenger jet carrying Celtic football fans was diverted today when the pilot sent out a mayday call after a major disturbance on board.

Police have been called to a British charter Boeing 737 aircraft which is on the tarmac at Cardiff International Airport having diverted there after crew reported a disturbance on board, aviation sources said.
