Two of Ireland’s most popular presenters — Ryan Tubridy and Ray D’Arcy — were trying hard not to let their competitive streaks show at the launch of RTÉ One’s new season schedule yesterday.

It opened with a sigh, continued with a groan, and quickly it became apparent that RTÉ Radio 1’s new — or at least reconditioned — signing was in the soup.
