Indian foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee, a long-time stalwart of the governing Congress Party, was seriously injured when a lorry slammed into his car, it was reported today.

A bomb blast ripped through two carriages of a passenger train in eastern India today, killing at least six people and injuring 53 others, officials said.
