A woman who campaigned against the Children’s Referendum has lost on all grounds her High Court challenge to the constitutionality of laws governing bringing petitions disputing referendum results.

An advertising expert has told the High Court he believes the Government’s information campaign in the children’s referendum exerted a “significant emotional influence” on voter behaviour, encouraging people to think children were at risk and they should vote yes.

The Government’s campaign in the children’s referendum was in “clear disregard” of the limits on what the State may do and was neither fair, equal, impartial nor neutral, the Supreme Court has ruled.
