The Garda file in the case against a man accused of killing a French homeless man in Cork City will be completed and ready to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions before Christmas, it emerged yesterday.

A man in his 20s has appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court charged with the manslaughter of a homeless man in the city earlier this month.

A taskforce set up three weeks ago to target begging and street crime in Cork City centre led to 15 people appearing in court yesterday.

A belligerent man shouted “silence, silence, silence” into the face of a garda who asked for his name and later when gardaí were going through his pockets as part of a routine search he urinated in his pants.
