A man who claims he was groped by a now retired surgeon has admitted he considered withdrawing his complaint but denies there was no basis to it.

The State has been given extra time to complete a book of evidence in the case of a retired consultant surgeon who denies indecently assaulting 16 young males over a 26-year period.

A High Court test case, involving a patient who alleged he was sexually assaulted by Dr Michael Shine at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth, has been settled today for a six-figure sum.
