Some of the most influential travel industry leaders in America have urged US President Barack Obama to approve a licence for low-cost flights to the US from Ireland.

Plans by one of the largest hotels in New York to end room service could spur Irish hoteliers to do the same in order to improve profits, according to the Irish Hotels Federation.
