Plans by one of the largest hotels in New York to end room service could spur Irish hoteliers to do the same in order to improve profits, according to the Irish Hotels Federation.

The 2,000-room New York Hilton Midtown, plans to eliminate room service this summer and offer guests takeaway meals.

Other major hotel groups are expected to follow suit.
