Gardaí have prevented an anti-water charges party from fundraising in a key flashpoint area because the money could be used to encourage the “commission of an unlawful act”.

The total compensation paid to gardaí injured in the course of their work jumped 20% last year — despite a 30% fall in the number of such cases.
